The Lab Ray turns your neopet into a variety of colors, and a whole bunch of different neopets, but sadly it won’t turn your pet royal, Usuki, Plushie, Baby, and Pirate. It may save you money or might not, for example you might have wanted an Island Quiggle and days later it turned into an Island Quiggle, guess what you saved about 1.5 million neopoints! A: Yes, the Lab Ray can turn your Neopet into a restricted or limited edition Neopet. There are a few colours that are not available from the Lab Ray, such as Usuki, Plushie, Baby, Pirate, and Royal. It doesn’t address draiks or krawks specifically, but it does seem like it should be possible. The lab ray is a laser contained within the Secret Laboratory. It is owned by a mad scorchio scientist and is hidden deep under the sea. To get there, one must first collect all 9 pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map and view the Secret Laboratory section of the game Treasure Maps. Once you have unlocked it, you can 'zap' your pets daily.
What is the Secret Laboratory?
The Secret Laboratory is a very “rare” place. Many people have heard about it, but have never seen it for themselves. It’s always the veteran Neopians who’ve seen and have access to this “legendary” place.Today, we’ll see what this fabled place really is… The Secret Laboratory, is owned by this guy pictured below…
Mad Lab Ray Scientist
An obviously demented Scorchio who’s been alone for far too long. He built this “mystical” device to keep him occupied, and with the rumors going around about it.. He’ll have plenty of company. Now, keep in mind, this “holy” Ray isn’t as good as people make it sound, should you venture into the Laboratory, you may regret it once you drag your weak and fragile pet out. The Ray is a combination of good and evil, just because you gained four levels or your pitiful Bruce got transformed into a Jetsam, doesn’t mean it’ll happen again.. Next time around, your pets level could be reduced back to Level 1 or your powerful Darigan Aisha turned into a useless Blue Chia.. Use at your own risk.
What Does It Do?
The Neopets Lab Ray can have various awesome effects or extremely disastrous results. Here’s a small list of what this unstable device may do..
Color Change
Species Change
I’m serious… It will happen.
Gender Change
Girl to Boy and Vice Versa
(See Source 1 for information below in italics.)
- Your pet can gain or lose levels (2 levels at a time)
- Your pet can gain or lose strength points (2 or 3 points at a time)
- Your pet can gain or lose defence points (2 or 3 points at a time)
- Your pet can gain or lose movement points (2 or 3 points at a time)
- Your pet can gain hitpoints (2, 3, 4, or 5 points at a time)
- Your pet’s level can go back to level 1 (if your pet is level 20 or below)
- Nothing happens
Please Note: What the lab ray cannot change your pet into is an Ice Bori. The Ice Bori is a special Neopets Promo only pet. Other than that the Lab Ray can do any color, except Usuki, Quiguki, Royal, Pirate, Plushie and Baby. This was confirmed in Neopets Magazine #4.
Also Note: You can NOT get Draiks or Krawks from the Lab Ray! This is so you won’t get a rare pet by a lucky zap when others have spent millions.. ( Thanks to Elite/Jon! )
Now, some of you are probably thinking that your don’t wish to risk all of your hard work just to see something cool happen. I agree, then don’t just save up and save up until you can afford the pet of your dreams. Yet, if you’re like me at times, willing to risk it all, then please, follow along. Now, to those of you who have nothing to lose, I bet you’re wondering, How do I get to this Lab Ray? Well, just be cool, I’m getting there.
Where Is It?
That is a mystery. The Lab Ray isn’t for little noobs who offer 1000 Neopoints for access to this “magical and pwnsome” place. You’re going to need to save up for access to the Laboratory. There are nine map peices that need to be purchased and stored within your Safety Deposit Box until you’ve bought them all. The estimated price on the Trading Post for the whole set will range from 860,000 to 1,350,000 Neopoints. So, be prepared to spend.. Here’s each peice that you’ll need to purchase.
Unfortunately, it’ll be hard to keep track of.. Seeing as Neo didn’t number the damned peices, you might accidentally be buying the same piece twice, so pay close attention to which ones you are buying. Once you have all nine pieces, within your inventory of course, you’ll need to go here to assemble them.
WARNING!
If you click the link, and your map is assembled, it will remain there permanently! You will no longer be able to sell or trade it, it’s there for good!!
Is It Worth it?
This is your personal decision, no one is going to sue you for not buying it from them after asking for a price.. Well, a noob would report you for lying/scamming.. But that’s just the way Neo is now, ruined by noobs. Anyways, think about this simple question.
” Why do I NEED the Lab Ray?”
Once your answer that, you’ll have your question. Most people answer like this, ” I want better stats!” or ” I want a rare pet with an even rarer color!” Like I said earlier, could you live knowing your hard-earned Darigan Draik turned into a useless along with hideous Blue Chia? Just answer that, then you’ll know whether it is or not.
Rewards…?!

Of course its not finished yet, but if you are willing to take the risk then I may let you have a go. How Do You Get Access To The Secret Laboratory?
Neopets Lab Ray Pieces
The Secret Laboratory is not available for all to use. Before you can get there, you need to complete the Secret Laboratory Map. The Secret Laboratory Map is made out of 9 different 'Secret Laboratory Map' pieces. You can see them below:
These Lab Map pieces are sold separately and can be found in shopping areas such as the Shop Wizard, Auctions or Trading Post. Most sell the full set in the Trading Post, however, it is best to buy them separately as it can be cheaper. It can be a challenge to find all the pieces separately as each Lab Map piece are not numbered. This means the Shop Wizard may generate pieces you already have or don't need. Before shopping, be sure to consult our Lab Map Prices page, which tracks current pricing of each lab map piece.
Once you have all the Secret Laboratory Map pieces in your inventory. You can get access by trading in your map pieces for permanent access to the Secret Laboratory. If you decide to do this your Secret Lab Map pieces will disappear forever, and you will not be able to get them back.
Is Getting Secret Laboratory Access Worth It?
Ask yourself: 'What will the Lab Ray do for me?' Perhaps you're a Battledome enthusiast and you want to hopefully gain stats. Maybe you are a collector of specific colors or species and you want to take a chance to fulfill your dream pet. Any of these ideas can be worth it for you in the long-run.
Neopets Lab Ray Map
Remember, though, that just as much as positive outcomes can happen, so can negative. Maybe your a Blumaroo fan and you have only Blumaroo's and the Lab Ray changes your favorite Blumaroo pet into an Eyrie. This can happen and should be considered. There are some users who, although spent a lot of Neopoints on the map, stop using the Lab Ray because they do not like their pet species and color changing for the worst.
If such changes do not bother you, and you are very much focused on having your pet getting stronger, then we highly recommend the Lab Ray. Over a long period of time, your pet will get stronger and it sure beats buying Codestones!
A Popular Purpose Of The Lab Ray
Fact: Not everyone who uses the Lab Ray uses it for themselves. There are a large group of players who spend time lifting spirits of pets who are in the Pound, a place filled with poor pets - created by cruel people - with awful names. These pets, most likely, players do not adopt and are bound to spend the rest of their lives in the pound.
How do these group of players come in? They use the Lab Ray as a form of charity where they will adopt pound pets - no matter their name - and blast them with the Lab Ray until they are of a species, color and stat that is liked by other players. This helps the pets in the pound get snatched and in a new home in no time!
While this is a charity for the pets, it is also a charity for players who cannot afford to have a painted pet of their own.
