Hi guys, The macOS High Sierra 10.13 upgraded make me sick because of its incompatible with the GPU CUDA driver. I came here after weeks searching for a solution that fixes the annoying "Update Required" message showing&hellip.
Hi to all.need help i have installed high sierra 10.13.6 17G2208 i need nvidia driver for my system. Mac OS X Support. I have installed high sierra 10.13.6. Nvidia Web Driver version 387.10.10.10.40.128 For macOS High Sierra build number 17G7024. This installer is the official release for macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.
I have followed the instructions here https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/cuda-installation-guide-mac-os-x/index.html to install CUDA on a MacBookPro.
I am also able to build the examples. When running the examples, CUDA is not able to find a GPU, but reports “cudaGetDeviceCount returned 100” instead.
Where should I look to trouble shoot this issue?
My setup is:
MacBookPro Mid 2012 Retina
OSX High Sierra, 10.13.6
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
CUDA Driver Version: 418.163
CUDA 10.1.105 Toolkit
- Installation as per this page: https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/cuda-installation-guide-mac-os-x/index.html
- An OSX related (apparently) tweak as described here, post #3 onwards: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1048339/cuda-setup-and-installation/cuda-driver-410-130-error-quot-update-required-quot-mac-os-10-11-6-/
- System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Automatic graphics switching: unchecked
- kernel extension reports started:
I appreciate any ideas, insight or help in finding steps forward,

To download and install the drivers, follow the steps below:
How To Get Macos High Sierra 10.13.6
STEP 1: Make sure your macOS software version is v10.13.6 (17G14033). It is important that you check this first before you install the 387.10.10.10.40.139 Driver. Click on the Apple icon (upper left corner of the screen) and select About This Mac. Click the Version number ('Version 10.13.6') to see the exact build version number (17G14033).
STEP 2: If your macOS software version has not been updated, in the About This Mac window, click on the Software Update button
STEP 3: Continue to install software updates until your system OS is reported to be v10.13.6 (17G14033)
STEP 4: Review the NVIDIA Software License.
STEP 5: Download the Driver File
STEP 6: Install. After downloading the driver package, it should automatically launch the installer. If it does not, double-click on the driver package from your download target location. It will guide you through the installation process. Click Continue after you read the License Agreement and then click Agree
STEP 7: Click Install on the Standard Installer screen. You will be required to enter an Administrator password to continue
STEP 8: Click Continue Installation on the Warning screen: The Warning screen lets you know that you will need to restart your system once the installation process is complete.
STEP 9: Click Restart on the Installation Completed Successfully screen.
Installation Note:
- Because of improvements in macOS security, the Security & Privacy Preferences may open during the installation process. If it does, click 'Allow' in order for the NVIDIA Graphics Driver to load, then return to the Installer.
- Currently, the only NVIDIA graphics card that supports ECC functionality is the NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac. Enabling ECC requires a portion of the graphics card’s usable memory size and bandwidth. In the Graphics/Displays section of your System Information, you may notice the “VRAM (Total)” amount of your NVIDIA Quadro K5000 drops from 4096 MB to 3584 MB when ECC is enabled. This is normal.
About Graphics Drivers:
While installing the graphics driver allows the system to properly recognize the chipset and the card manufacturer, updating the video driver can bring about various changes.
It can improve the overall graphics experience and performance in either games or various engineering software applications, include support for newly developed technologies, add compatibility with newer GPU chipsets, or resolve different problems that might have been encountered.
When it comes to applying this release, the installation steps should be a breeze, as each manufacturer tries to make them as easy as possible so that each user can update the GPU on their own and with minimum risks (however, check to see if this download supports your graphics chipset).
Therefore, get the package (extract it if necessary), run the setup, follow the on-screen instructions for a complete and successful installation, and make sure you reboot the system so that the changes take effect.
That being said, download the driver, apply it on your system, and enjoy your newly updated graphics card. Moreover, check with our website as often as possible in order to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
